Pittsburgh PA's first annual Indoor Horse Show was held on January, 19th, 20th, and 21th at the Hunt Armory in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh for the nationally acclaimed Hill City, located in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh. The following article was taken from the Robinson & Saunders Archives.
Puritan Boy Takes
Top Horse Show Honors
Chesnut Gelding Wins Four Firsts;
Golden Locket Best In High Jump
A chestnut gelding, Puritan Boy owned by the George Braun Farms of New Rochelle, N.Y., and ridden by Jane Clapper, took top honors in the three- day indoor horse show at Hunt Armory, for the benefit of Hill City, which ended Saturday night. Puritan Boy, entered in the hunter class, took four first places in five events of that class. Big Mike, owned by Colonel George H. Cherrington, was runner-up.
Golden Locket, owned by B.A.Blumberger, of Pittsburgh went to six feet, two inches in the high jump and because of the lack of time did not try to best the world record of eight feet, one inch.
The summary Children's championship saddle seat- Miss Valera Sayre, champion: Miss Jacqueline Carson reserve champion.
Children's championship hunter seat- Raymond Beach, champion;Edward Fischer, reserve champion.
Children's back's-Won by Valera Sayre's Twilight; Barbara Siebert's Sweet Sue, second; Raymond Beach's Nancy, third; LaVerne Sayre's Stardust, fourth.

Negrotown Knoll...Benjamin Todd Jealous, head of the NAACP was a total embarrassment in his conversation with Tea Party 365 member David Webb on the Larry King Live program on CNN on July 14th.
David Webb backed Jealous into the corner regarding his accusation about the racial name calling incident with Congressman John Lewis in Washington D.C. Jealous responded by showing the whole country how unprepared he is for prime time. Webb continued his relentless counter attack against Jealous' charges of some Tea Party members using racial slurs against various members of the U.S. Congress. Jealous again appeared perplexed and dumbfounded.
Jealous couldn't produce any semblance of evidentiary proof to support his charges and therefore looked rather clumsy in responding to Mr. Webb's line of inquiry. Webb did a better job of jabbing, counter-punching and throwing a couple of left hooks (Black Panthers) at Uncle Ben that pinned Jealous to the ropes. David Webb punked Ben Jealous.

Mr. Jealous, no one cares or gives a hoot about the fact that your mother is white. So why do you state that fact at every chance you get? Mr. Jealous do you think that you are a little bit better than the average Black because your mother was white? There are many African American men &women that have white mothers but they are very content in their Blackness. I say Mr. Jealous that you have a slave mentality. It is quite apparent that Ben Jealous is confused and perplexed about his racial identity. I wonder Mr. Jealous have you ever read the Autobiography of Malcolm X? And who critiqued you on Malcolm's great Auto ?
Has Ben Jealous ever read Frantz Fanon's, Black Skin, White Mask? If so! Who did the critiquing ?
Mr. Jealous, most African Americans in the USA have multi-racial backgrounds due to 400 + years of intense miscegenation.
The question I have for the Board of Directors of the NAACP: where did you find Ben Jealous and how on God's earth did this inept man become the head of the oldest historic Civil Rights Organization in the country?
Mr. Jealous must be straight out of the mail room at American Express or out of the Human Resource Department of Time Warner.

The nations oldest Civil Rights Organization the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has decided to take on the Tea Party in a vain effort to improve its poor public image among African Americans after the duplicitous deal with Wells Fargo, which left thousands of Africans Americans out to dry.
Ben Jealous head of the NAACP is battling with the Tea Party with his weak public relations tirade while his organization simultaneously gives aid and comfort to real race discriminators such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, CitiGroup, J.P. Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, AIG, GE, Coca Cola, Wal-Mart, Johnson & Johnson, Educational Institutions, and thousands of other companies and corporations that routinely discriminate against Blacks/Hispanics without any fear of reprisals or government intervention with enforcement.
Most intelligent Americans are the cognizant of the fact that the majority of white people in the USA gave their overwhelming support to John McCain in the 2008 Presidential election. McCain receives roughly 56 per cent of the white vote in the 2008 election. So it should not come as a surprise to anyone that has astutely followed American politics that the nations first African American President in the modern day era would be the recipient of a horrific white backlash due to his race, and bad for America policies.
I suspect that most of the group that makes up the Tea Party are neo-racists, who I would call "non-sophisticated lower level Birchers."
The vast majority of the Tea Party members are considered outsiders by the movers & shakers in the Grand Old Party, but they do have a platform full of leftover Reaganomics. Do any of the Tea Party members own and control any of the major institutions in our society ?
Someone in the hierarchy of the Obama administration probably told Ben Jealous to jump on the Tea Party to deflect attention away from the poor employment outlook in the country, and U.S. Justice Department's Lawsuit against Arizona's poorly crafted Immigration Bill which will cost the Democrats many House seats in the upcoming fall election.
Uncle Ben is attempting to appease his base by looking tough against the Tea Party crowd for the TV camera's while acting wimpish like President Obama behind closed doors in the company of the discriminating Wells Fargo corporation.

The Infamous Dan Gilbert Owner of The Cleveland Cavaliers Behaves Just Like A Jilted Slavemaster, Who Has Seen One of His Field Slaves Runaway.

Akron, Ohio... Dan Gilbert owner of the lowly positioned Cleveland Cavaliers is fined $ 100, 000.00 dollars for his inflammatory, specious, hostile, rude border-line racist comments by NBA Commissioner David Stern in reference to the LeBron James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This fine of $100, 000.00 dollars by Stern of Gilbert maybe only a gimmick to appease the NBA Players Association. The public will never know whether Mr. Gilbert pays the find, and I don't think we can trust the word of the duplicitous David Stern.
David Stern is sitting back loving all the attention his marginal league is receiving while appearing that he is upset with his main money maker King James. This has been a bonanza for David Sterns NBA.
The three amigos, Bosh, James, and Wade planned to play together back in 2008 during the Summer Olympics. It has been common knowledge among all sports fans since 2008, that three amigos would love to play together. And all three had been very vocal about the right type of scenario that would put them in a position to suit-up on the same team. So only a complete idiot would believe otherwise. Gilbert is just grandstanding because his pride and ego have been hurt by his main field slave.
Dan Gilbert acts like a typical Slave master of the Antebellum period, who has just seen one of his prize field slaves leave the Cleveland Plantation for work on the Heat Plantation in South Florida.
In professional sports a free agent is a player whose contract has expired and who is eligible to sign with another Club or Franchise.
Dan Gilbert couldn't win a NBA title with LeBron James, and his chances of winning a title without King James are indeed remote. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a better chance of winning the World Series, than the Cleveland Cavaliers do in capturing an NBA title in the future.
Michael Jordan arguably the greatest player to ever play the game was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984, but his Bulls couldn't win an NBA title until 1991. Dan Gilbert should have learned a lesson or to from the Michael Jordan led Bulls of the eighties that one man can't win a NBA title. Titles are won by teams, in which each player plays a vital role in doing his part. Furthermore its up to the management staff from top to bottom to make sure that all the necessary ingredients/chemistry are present along with clear goals that can build solid team cohesion in concert with extremely hard work. Its called teamwork master Gilbert. That's how you win Championships.
The"Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons beat the Bulls three straight years in a row when Jordan was at the height of his game in his prime, but coach Phil Jackson and Jerry Krause VP. of Basketball Operations made sure that MJ got the right type of complementary players such as Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Dennis Rodman, Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr, Lou Longley to run that triangle offense and that's when the Bulls started to win championships. Mr. Gilbert you never gave King James a power forward like Horace Grant, who average 10.0 rebounds a game. Further Mr. Gilbert, you never gave King James a player of the caliber of the great Scottie Pippen, or the flamboyant Dennis Rodman, or the rugged Bill Cartwright, or the steady Steve Kerr. Therefore Mr. Gilbert I find you guilty of a dereliction of duty and neglect in putting that sad team around King James. The intelligent folks in the Buckeye State should be more outraged with Mr. Gilbert's ineptness, and mediocrity than with departure of King James. After all what good player in their right mind would want to play in a flat, country, hick town like Cleveland?
Yes I watched how King James basically quit in that last play-off game against the Celtics. And I have never known the great Michael Jordan display such poor effort or lack of intensity on the court, and certainly King James will have to make amends for that failure.
The true Cavalier fans should boycott all Cavaliers games. I bet anyone that Gilbert can't give away any Cavalier tickets. How much money will Mr. Gilbert loose as a result of James leaving the Cleveland Plantation ?
ESPN is the only true winner in the King James circus in which their ratings sky-rocketed as result of LeBron James holding that spectacle of a poorly orchestrated news conference. The King James fisaco called a news conference made him appear rather buffoonish, and amateurish in answering questions.
ESPN achieved their objective in vastly improving their ratings, while at the same time LeBron made a fool out of himself.
The two big new named stars on the Miami Heat roster Chris Bosh, and LeBron James along with Dwayne Wade will not win a NBA title until all the parts to the puzzle are put together. Champions are made on the court, and not necessarily with high profile and over paid players on said rosters.
"Now you can take that to the bank you over rambunctious Miami Heat fans."

Hill City Municipality will present a free movie for adults on the evening of Friday, April 11, 1945, A Hollywood production , "Clear to the Top," the movie treats the parent's responsibility in providing proper recreational guidance for youth and is in line with Hill City's campaign to reduce juvenile delinquency.

Damascus rising senior Brandon Phelps has verbally committed to play college football at the University of Virginia.
By choosing the Charlottesville, Va. school, Phelps, an All-Sentinel performer, follows in the footsteps of his father, Gary Phelps, who suited up for the Cavaliers in the 1980s.
After receiving 21 Division I scholarship offers, Phelps decided to make a commitment to the Cavaliers and first-year head coach Mike London during a recent unofficial visit.
"Me and my family, we talked with Coach London for a while," Phelps said. "That's what really convinced me."
Besides Virginia, Phelps, a four-year starter, also received offers from other ACC schools as well as schools in the Big Ten, Big East, SEC and Pac-10.
Phelps said he narrowed his list down to about 10 schools including Penn State, Notre Dame, LSU and Alabama.
The 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver and cornerback was recruited to Virginia to play on the defensive side of the ball and can hardly wait to compete at the collegiate level.
"I'm definitely looking forward to it," Phelps said. "It's a great conference to play in. There will be more opportunities to make myself better."
With two-a-days scheduled to begin next month, Phelps is glad to have the recruiting process behind him.
"It feels really good," he said. "It gives me a chance to focus on my teammates and what we need to do this year."

ATHENS, Ga. (AP)—Damon Evans offered another apology on the day his resignation as Georgia’s athletic director was announced by the school’s president.
The announcement by Michael Adams came after a conference call with the executive committee of the athletic association’s board of directors Monday. Adams said Evans resigned Sunday, less than a week after Evans was arrested on a DUI charge.
Evans released a statement Monday in which he offered “my sincerest apology” to Adams, Georgia officials, coaches, fans and student-athletes.
Evans was 34 when he was chosen athletic director in 2004.
“It had been my hope since taking the job in 2004 that I would have a long career at UGA,” Evans said. “But because of a serious mistake in judgment, that won’t be the case and I understand that I have a long road to rebuilding my reputation and career.”
Adams read a statement and said he will have no other comment until Tuesday.
Evans was arrested late Wednesday in Atlanta. He was charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane. Also arrested with him was Courtney Fuhrmann, who was charged with disorderly conduct.
Evans said Thursday Fuhrmann is “just a friend.” According to the incident report, the arresting officer said Fuhrmann told him she had been seeing Evans for “only a week or so.”
Evans and his wife, Kerri, have two children. He apologized to his wife Thursday as she attended his news conference.
Evans became the Southeastern Conference’s first black athletic director in 2004.
There was no immediate word on a replacement.

“We acknowledge the many positive accomplishments of his tenure, including an increased focus on the academic success of student-athletes, the overall financial strength of the athletic department and the hiring of many very good people as head coaches and senior leaders in the athletic department,” Adams said, reading from a statement.
Despite those accomplishments, Evans’ arrest caused damage to his reputation that led to the resignation.
“As I said on Thursday morning, when I first learned of the situation, this is not an example of the kind of leadership that I expect our senior administrators to set,” Adams said. “I have high regard for Damon personally; I care deeply about him and his family.”
Adams chose Evans as AD after the president refused to extend Vince Dooley’s contract.
Possible candidates to replace Evans from the Georgia staff include associate ADs Frank Crumley, Arthur Johnson and Claude Felton and senior associate AD Carla Williams.
At his news conference Thursday, Evans said he “failed miserably” as a leader and representative of Georgia.
At that time, Evans said he hoped to save his job. Details from the Georgia State Patrol’s incident report from the arrest added even more embarrassment.
According to the report, Evans attempted to influence the arresting officer, identified in the report as M. Cabe, by telling the officer he was Georgia’s athletic director.

Cabe said that Evans asked to be taken to a motel instead of jail or to be let off with a warning.
The officer noted that Evans was found with a “red pair of lady’s panties between his legs.”
Evans was the public face of the school’s athletic department in many venues, including at home football games at Sanford Stadium. Before each game, his taped video message was played as he urged fans not to drink and drive.
“If you drink and drive, you lose,” Evans said in the video message.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP)—Damon Evans offered another apology on the day his resignation as Georgia’s athletic director was announced by the school’s president.
The announcement by Michael Adams came after a conference call with the executive committee of the athletic association’s board of directors Monday. Adams said Evans resigned Sunday, less than a week after Evans was arrested on a DUI charge.
Evans released a statement Monday in which he offered “my sincerest apology” to Adams, Georgia officials, coaches, fans and student-athletes.
Evans was 34 when he was chosen athletic director in 2004.
“It had been my hope since taking the job in 2004 that I would have a long career at UGA,” Evans said. “But because of a serious mistake in judgment, that won’t be the case and I understand that I have a long road to rebuilding my reputation and career.”
Adams read a statement and said he will have no other comment until Tuesday.
Evans was arrested late Wednesday in Atlanta. He was charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane. Also arrested with him was Courtney Fuhrmann, who was charged with disorderly conduct.
Evans said Thursday Fuhrmann is “just a friend.” According to the incident report, the arresting officer said Fuhrmann told him she had been seeing Evans for “only a week or so.”
Evans and his wife, Kerri, have two children. He apologized to his wife Thursday as she attended his news conference.
Evans became the Southeastern Conference’s first black athletic director in 2004.
There was no immediate word on a replacement.
