Black Buzz says Lia Neal is the second African American female to swim on the United States Olympic team. The first African female to swim on a US Olympic team was Maritza Correia McClendon in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece where she won a silver medal on the US 400 Meter Freestyle Relay Team.
There were two other African American swimmers on this year's US Olympic team, Cullen Jones who captured a Silver medal in the 50 Meter Freestyle and Anthony Ervin who came in fifth in the finals in the 50 Meter Freestyle.
