The Hill City Benefit Horse Show, which features five of Joe Louis' steeds opened today at Hunt Armory. Pittsburghers had their first opportunity to see "Flash, Louis' best and favorite thoroughbred. It was impossible for the heavyweight champion to be here for the event.
Turf lovers are witnessing this week a spectacle which is not only unique, but one of the most colorful ever staged here.
According to Miss Jane Flaccus, chairman of the Ring committee, ticket sales have been overwhelming. A record is also expected for the performances, Friday and Saturday, Jan.19 and 20.
PROMINENT CITIZENS
MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS
Prominent citizens from civic, and social circles are not only supporting the show, but many have made substantial contributions in order that it will be successful.
Friday night will be "Hill City Night. " The program will be designed to explain the work of the famous youth municipality.Mrs. Robert L. Vann will be the principal speaker. The Rev. J.O. Williams and Judge Lois McBride will also appear on the program.
Among the clubs which have entered horses are the Sewickley Chestnut Ridge, Westmoreland Hart's Run, and the Rolling Rock Hunt.
Samuel W. Taylor, editor of the "Rider and Drive; Temple Stevens of Mobley Missouri, and J. Stanley Greens of Leesburg, Va. are the judges.
